Living Space:
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are large, athletic dogs that thrive in environments where they have space to roam. While they can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient exercise and mental stimulation, they ideally benefit from a home with a yard where they can stretch their legs and expend energy.
Exercise:
They require regular, vigorous exercise, including long walks, runs, and playtime in a secure outdoor area. Without adequate physical activity, they may become bored and develop undesirable behaviors.
Climate:
They tolerate moderate weather well, but precautions should be taken to protect them from extreme temperatures, particularly excessive heat. Providing shaded areas and hydration is crucial during hot weather.
Grooming:
Rhodesian Ridgebacks have short coats that require minimal grooming. Regular brushing helps to manage shedding and maintain coat health. Routine nail trimming, dental care, and ear checks are also recommended.
Independence:
These dogs are capable of being independent and can be left alone for moderate periods, but they prefer the companionship of their family. They do best when included in family activities and require consistent interaction.
