Living Space:
Salukis are adaptable to apartment living as long as they are given adequate exercise. However, they thrive in environments where they have space to roam. A house with a yard would be ideal to allow them the space to stretch their legs and run, though they can manage in smaller spaces with regular outdoor access.
Exercise:
They require regular and rigorous exercise due to their nature as sighthounds. Long walks, runs, or playtime in secure areas are essential for keeping them healthy and happy. Access to open outdoor spaces where they can safely run is beneficial.
Climate:
Salukis are well-suited to moderate climates. They have thin coats that offer little protection against extreme cold, so they may require extra care during colder months. In hot climates, care should be taken to avoid overheating.
Grooming:
While Salukis have short coats that require minimal grooming, regular brushing helps keep their coat in good condition and minimizes shedding. Their grooming needs are relatively low compared to other breeds.
Independence:
They are independent-minded but form strong bonds with their families. While they can handle being left alone for short periods, they do better with companionship. Separation anxiety can be a concern if left alone frequently or for long durations.
